He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
