He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you attend to him, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
