He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 Olives and dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
