He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and in awe of God 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
