The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
When the sun shall be wound round, 1 And when the stars shall fall; 2 And when the mountains are removed 3 when ten-month pregnant camels are left untended, 4 when the savage beasts shall be brought together, 5 When the oceans surge and swell, 6 And when the souls he paired, 7 And the little girl buried alive is asked 8 Upon what sin was she killed for. 9 when the scrolls shall be unrolled, 10 And when the sky is torn away, 11 hell is made to blaze, 12 And when the garden is brought nigh, 13 then shall a soul know what it has produced. 14 But nay! I swear by the stars, 15 That run their course (and) hide themselves, 16 and the night as it darkly falls, 17 And by the dawn when it breathes 18 it is indeed the word of an Honorable Messenger, 19 who is honored in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 obeyed, moreover trusty. 21 Nor is your companion distracted. 22 he truly beheld him [the angel] on the clear horizon. 23 And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen. 24 Nor is this the word of a stoned satan. 25 Where then will you go? 26 This is merely a reminder to all mankind; 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
