The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
WHEN THE SUN is folded up, 1 And when the stars fall, dispersing, 2 and the mountains have been taken, 3 And when full-term she-camels are neglected 4 And when the wild beasts are herded together, 5 And when the seas shall be filled, 6 When souls are reunited (with the bodies) 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 for what sin she was killed, 9 when the scrolls shall be unrolled, 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; 11 when Hell shall be set blazing, 12 when Paradise is brought near, 13 then, each soul shall know what it has produced. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 The stars which rise and set, 16 And by the night when it departeth, 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 truly this is the word of a noble Messenger 19 of power, given a rank by the Owner of the Throne 20 One (to be) obeyed, and faithful in trust. 21 And your comrade is not mad. 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 And he is not avid of the Unseen. 24 Nor is this [message] the word of any satanic force accursed. 25 So where are you going? 26 Verily this is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds: 27 For whoever wills among you to take a right course. 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
