The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven breaks apart. 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 [then,] O man - thou [that] hast, verily, been toiling towards thy Sustainer in painful toil - then shalt thou meet Him! 6 Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 and the night and what it envelops 17 And the moon when it grows full, 18 [That] you will surely experience state after state. 19 What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? 20 and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment. 24 But for those who believe and do good works; for them there shall be a never-ending reward. 25
