The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed! 5 Human being, you strive hard to get closer to your Lord, and so you will certainly receive the recompense (of your deeds). 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 and he will return to his family joyfully. 9 And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Indeed he used to rejoice in his home. 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 No! I swear by the twilight 16 by the night and all that it envelops; 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they believe not? 20 And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance? ۩ 21 Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny; 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So give them the good news of a painful chastisement, 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
