The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the heavens and that which comes in the night! 1 What could let you know what the nightly comer is! 2 It is the star shining brightly. 3 For every soul there is a watcher. 4 LET MAN, then, observe out of what he has been created: 5 he was created of gushing water 6 Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs: 7 Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life) 8 On a Day whereon secrets shall be out. 9 He will have no strength or helper. 10 By the Firmament which returns (in its round), 11 And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants) 12 It is surely a decisive utterance; 13 and is no idle tale. 14 They are hatching up a plot, 15 And I secretly plan. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal you gently with them for a while. 17
