Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 and couches raised high, 13 And cups put in place 14 and cushions arrayed 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
