Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
