Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 So do they not see the camel how it has been created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
