Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 led rebellious lives, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
