Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
