Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 And enter into My garden. 30
True are the words of God the Almighty.
