Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and the ten nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
