Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
