Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
