Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Join My servants. 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
