Al-Balad

The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
