Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
