The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 Truly he succeeds that purifies it, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
