The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
