The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the sun and his brightness, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 So Allah's apostle said to them (Leave alone) Allah's she-camel, and (give) her (to) drink. 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
