The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they gave him the lie, and cruelly slaughtered her - whereupon their Sustainer visited them with utter destruction for this their sin, destroying them all alike: 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
