The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
