The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
