The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
