The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
