The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
