The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
