The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
