The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
