The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 He verily will be content. 21
