The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
