The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
