The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
