The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
