The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 Surely We showed him the Right Path, regardless of whether he chooses to be thankful or unthankful (to his Lord). 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth We have readied chains and shackles, and a blazing flame 4 Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur, 5 a source [of bliss] whereof God's servants shall drink, seeing it flow in a flow abundant. 6 They (are those who) fulfill (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil will be wide-spreading. 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 Saying: we feed you only for the sake of Allah; we desire not from you any recompense or thanks. 9 We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord." 10 And so, God will preserve them from the woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy, 11 For their patience, He will reward them with Paradise and silk. 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 The shadows will bend over them, and low will hang the clusters of grapes. 14 Vessels of silver and goblets of pure crystal will be passed round among them 15 crystal of silver that they have measured -- very exactly. 16 And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,- 17 From a fountain therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ And immortal youths will wait upon them: when thou seest them, thou wouldst deem them to be scattered pearls; 19 wherever you look, you will see bliss and a great kingdom: 20 Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
