In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 But [whether by night or by day,] remember thy Sustainer's name, and devote thyself unto Him with utter devotion. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
