He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
