The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 a fitting requital, 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
