Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 By the night when it withdraweth. 33 And the dawn when it shineth forth, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 a warning to mortal man 36 Unto him of you who will advance or hang back. 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 Of evil-doers: 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers) 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 Fleeing from a lion! 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
