He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
