۞ To Abraham We gave the right guidance and We knew him very well. 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They said, “Have you brought the Truth to us, or are you just making fun?” 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 He broke them all into pieces, except their great one so that they might return to it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said: We heard a youth called Ibrahim speak of them. 60 They said: 'Then bring him here so that the people may see, so that they may bear witness' 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and that you serve apart from God! Do you not understand?' 67 They said, “Burn him and help your Gods, if you want to.” 68 Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." 69 And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
