The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 The reward for what they did. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and serried acacias, 29 and spreading shade 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virgins. 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
