The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
