They ask thee concerning Zul-qarnain. Say, "I will rehearse to you something of his story." 83 We established him in the land, and gave him the means to achieve all things. 84 With these he traveled 85 Till, when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a people thereabout. We said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Either punish or show them kindness. 86 He said: As for him who doeth wrong, we shall punish him, and then he will be brought back unto his Lord, Who will punish him with awful punishment! 87 But as for him who believeth and doeth right, good will be his reward, and We shall speak unto him a mild command. 88 Then he followed a road 89 Till, when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had appointed no shelter therefrom. 90 Thus indeed it was. We had full knowledge of him. 91 Thereafter he followed a way. 92 Till, when he came between the two mountains, he found upon their hither side a folk that scarce could understand a saying. 93 They said: O Zul-Qarnain verily Yajuj and Majuj are working corruption in the land; shall we then pay thee tribute on condition that thou place between us and them a barrier! 94 He said: That in which my Lord has established me is better, therefore you only help me with workers, I will make a fortified barrier between you and them; 95 Give me pieces of iron - till, when he had levelled up (the gap) between the cliffs, he said: Blow! - till, when he had made it a fire, he said: Bring me molten copper to pour thereon. 96 And thus [the rampart was built, and] their enemies were unable to scale it, and neither were they able to pierce it. 97 He said: this is a mercy from my Lord; then when the promise of my Lord cometh, He shall make it powder, and the promise of my Lord is ever true. 98 ۞ AND ON that Day" We shall [call forth all mankind and] leave them to surge like waves [that dash] against one another; and the trumpet [of judgment] will be blown, and We shall gather them all together. 99 And on that Day We shall place hell, for all to see, before those who denied the truth 100 Whose eyes were veiled against My warning, and they could not hear. 101
