The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the declining star, 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
