The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
WOE UNTO THOSE who give short measure: 1 when they measure against the people, take full measure 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Do such (men) not consider that they will be raised again 4 for a great Day, 5 A Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 Nay! Truly, the Record (writing of the deeds) of the Fujjar (disbelievers, sinners, evil-doers and wicked) is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Sijjin is? 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Woe, that Day, to the deniers, 10 Those that deny the Day of Judgment. 11 And none belieth it save each trespasser, sinner. 12 When Our Verses (of the Quran) are recited to him he says: "Tales of the ancients!" 13 No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning. 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 Then, verily they will indeed enter and taste the burning flame of Hell. 16 It will then be said, “This is what you used to deny.” 17 No indeed; the book of the pious is in Illiyun; 18 Ah, what will convey unto thee what 'Illiyin is! - 19 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record 20 Those who are drawn near (to Allah) shall witness it. 21 Indeed the virtuous are in serenity. 22 On thrones, watching. 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed. 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 a wine whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink. 28 The sinners had been laughing at the believers. 29 And whenever they passed by them, used to wink at each other (in mockery); 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 and whenever they see those [who believe,] they say: "Behold, these [people] have indeed gone astray!" 32 Yet they were not sent as guardians over them. 33 So today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers, 34 seated upon their couches, they are looking around. 35 Are not the disbelievers paid (fully) for what they used to do? 36
